Costs of a Facade Cladding

A facade cladding costs an average of €182 per square meter.

Installing facade panels costs between €90 and €275 per square meter.

Facade panels – a must for thermal insulation

According to Germany’s current Energy Saving Ordinance, new buildings and renovations must meet optimized insulation standards.
Facade panels play an important role here: they help insulate your exterior walls efficiently, reduce energy consumption in the long term, and may make you eligible for attractive government subsidies.

However, the total cost can vary depending on these factors:

  • Amount of personal work done

  • Chosen material

  • Size of the facade

  • Type of insulation

  • Labor costs

Are there any subsidies?

Yes. You can receive financial support when cladding your building with new facade panels, especially if the new panels improve your home’s insulation.
Ensure that contractors include insulation details in their cost estimate and perform the installation professionally.

The KfW (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau) offers low-interest loans for energy-efficient renovation projects under programs No. 151 and 152. Facade insulation is one of the eligible measures. Additionally, you can benefit from grants under program 430.

How high are labor costs?

The hourly wage for skilled workers depends on qualification and experience, usually between €47 and €69.
Also, travel costs of up to €60 may apply depending on distance.

Expected labor costs for facade panel installation:

Material Labor Cost per m²
Wood €32–48
HPL (Resopal) €35–51
Resin Composite €35–51
Wood Cement €35–51
Fiber Cement €22–33
Corrugated Sheet Metal €14–20
Aluminum Composite Panels €35–51
Shingles €47–69
Clay Tiles €19–27

How high are material costs?

Facade panels come in many materials — from fiber cement starting at €20/m² to high-end resin composite facades averaging €140/m².

Choosing the right material depends on your facade and personal preferences. It’s best to consult an energy advisor or your contractor to determine what suits your building best.

Material cost overview:

Material Cost per m²
Wood €25–62
Resopal (HPL) €84–146
Resin Composite €84–146
Resin Composite (premium) €107–191
Wood Cement €53–95
Fiber Cement €20–36
Corrugated Sheet Metal €29–43
Aluminum Composite Panels €84–251
Shingles €20–66
Clay Tiles €69–154

Material comparison:

Material Advantages Disadvantages
Wood Natural look, sustainable Requires regular maintenance
HPL (Resopal) Durable, UV-resistant, easy-care Limited structural strength
Resin Composite Durable, algae-resistant, easy to clean Expensive
Fiber Cement Frost-resistant, available in many colors Labor-intensive installation
Corrugated Sheet Long-lasting, frost-resistant Complex connections
Aluminum Composite Lightweight, formable Expensive
Shingles Eco-friendly, frost-resistant Costly, maintenance-heavy
Clay Tiles Colorfast, insulating, low-maintenance Labor-intensive, costly

Additional Costs

In addition to panel materials, you’ll need to budget for substructure and insulation costs.

Estimated additional costs:

  • Substructure: €8–119/m²

  • Mineral wool insulation: €24–51/m²

Substructure costs depend heavily on the chosen material and the complexity of installation.

Substructure Material Cost per m²
Wooden battens €8–20
Double-layer wooden battens €16–66
Rough boards €21–61
Aluminum €42–119

Example: Cladding a Facade with Fiber Cement (Eternit) Panels

Below is an example calculation for a 15 m² facade clad with fiber cement panels.

Item Cost
Eternit panels €300
Panel installation €330
Substructure €240
Insulation €360
Total €1,230
